VIA Pharmaceuticals is a biotechnology company focused on the treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases

VIA is building a pipeline of small-molecule drugs that target cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. VIA’s lead candidate, VIA-2291, targets a significant unmet medical need – reducing the rupture of atherosclerotic plaques, which is an underlying cause of heart attack, stroke and other vascular diseases.

VIA has completed three Phase 2 clinical trials with VIA-2291 in patients with cardiovascular disease to provide evidence for the plaque-modifying and systemic anti-inflammatory activities as early as possible in the clinical development process. The innovative Phase 2 trials utilized a combination of measures such as biomarkers, non-invasive medical imaging of the coronary vessel and various atherosclerotic plaque bioassays.

VIA expanded its drug development pipeline with preclinical compounds that target additional underlying causes of cardiovascular and metabolic disease, including VIA-3196, an IND-ready liver-directed Thyroid Hormone Agonist that targets high cholesterol, high triglycerides and insulin sensitization / diabetes. VIA also in-licensed a Diacylglycerol Acyl Transferase 1 (DGAT1) inhibitor lead optimization program for diabetes, weight control/obesity and dyslipidemia.
