About VIA

VIA is committed to being a leading biotechnology company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing novel drugs for the treatment of inflammation in the blood vessel wall as an innovative approach to treatment of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.

Depending on the severity and the location of the artery it affects, atherosclerosis may result in blockage of certain vessels and can also cause a rupture of inflamed plaque tissue leading to major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) such as heart attack and stroke. While currently available medications, such as cholesterol-lowering, anti-platelet and blood pressure drugs, treat the conditions that increase the risk of MACE, these therapies do not treat the underlying inflammation. There are currently no medications available to directly treat the underlying inflammation of the blood vessel wall that can lead to rupture.

Initially VIA-2291 is targeted to address the secondary prevention market for patients who have already suffered a major adverse cardiovascular event. Potentially a complement to the medications that treat the conditions that increase the risk of MACE, VIA-2291 could be beneficial to the more than 15 million Americans who suffer from atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.

Prior to in-licensing VIA-2291, the compound was administered to more than 1,100 patients in 20 Phase 1 trials, providing VIA with a de-risked molecule that the company believes will be safe and well tolerated in doses currently being administered in its Phase 2 clinical trials for cardiovascular disease. Once VIA has established proof-of-concept, it plans to consider business collaborations with larger biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies for late-stage clinical development and commercialization of its compounds.
