About VIA

VIA is committed to being a leading biotechnology company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing novel drugs for the treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic disease. Our lead compound, VIA-2291, is focused on reducing inflammation in atherosclerotic plaque as an innovative approach to treatment of cardiovascular disease including heart attacks, stroke and other vascular diseases.

Depending on the severity and the location of the artery it affects, rupture of inflamed atherosclerotic plaque tissue may lead to major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) such as heart attack and stroke. While currently available medications, such as cholesterol-lowering, antiplatelet and blood pressure drugs, treat the conditions that increase the risk of MACE, these therapies do not treat the underlying inflammation. There are currently no medications available to directly treat the underlying inflammation in plaque that can lead to rupture.

Initially VIA-2291 is targeted to address the secondary prevention market for patients who have established atherosclerotic disease. Potentially a complement to the medications that treat the conditions that increase the risk of MACE, VIA-2291 could be beneficial to the more than 15 million Americans who suffer from atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.

Having completed the Phase 2 clinical program, VIA plans to consider business collaborations with larger biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies for late-stage clinical development and commercialization of VIA-2291.

VIA’s next asset in its pipeliine, VIA-3196, is a liver directed Thyroid Hormone Receptor β (THRβ) agonist: an IND-ready compound for hypercholesterolemia/dyslipidemia, insulin resistance and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)

VIA also has a Diacylglycerol Acyl Transferase 1 (DGAT1) inhibitor lead optimization program for diabetes, weight control/obesity and dyslipidemia.
